Running a business requires dedication, motivation, and a positive mindset, but if you don’t embrace a growth mindset then you are at risk of staying small. Your attitudes, assumptions, and core beliefs shape your actions, thoughts, and experiences and impact how you run your business and how your target audience sees you. To unlock your potential as a female entrepreneur, it’s important to constantly develop your professional skills. Your mindset plays a huge role in that development. Do you have a fixed or growth mindset?

Fixed Mindset or Growth Mindset - Socially Shared blog

What is a fixed mindset?

If you have a fixed mindset you will be more inclined to believe your abilities and skillset can’t be changed. You may avoid challenges and give up when faced with an obstacle.

This can have a negative impact on your business as you remain in your comfort zone.

What is a growth mindset?

Having a growth mindset allows you to constantly develop and improve your abilities. You will feel encouraged to embrace any challenges thrown your way, you’ll work through setbacks, and you understand that failures are a perfect lesson where you can learn and grow.

If you want greater success in life and business and want to feel fulfilled then embracing a growth mindset is essential.

Mindset techniques for women in business

Here are some of the mindset techniques the members of Socially Shared use to help with business growth:

Gratitude – Reflect on what you are grateful for each day and focus on the positives. By doing this you can shift your mindset into a more optimistic frame of mind. Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to build this habit into your daily life.

Goal setting – It’s great to have a big goal or dream, but sometimes the enormity of your goal overwhelms you. Try breaking that big goal into smaller, more achievable steps. By doing this it puts you back in control and more able to see the progress you are making.

It’s okay to fail – Never be afraid of failing at something. With every challenge, obstacle, and setback you are given a chance to learn and grow. Self-improvement comes from facing those challenges and finding a way through them.

Affirmations – Repeating positive affirmations to yourself can be effective when trying to switch your mindset. Tell yourself “I am enough” or “I can achieve anything I set my mind to”. If you struggle to say these things out loud try writing your favourite affirmations on a post-it note and displaying it where you can see it. Something like “I am worthy of my desires” or “I trust that what I want is already on its way to me” are great affirmations to display.

Focus – Instead of stressing about the areas of your life and business you can’t control, focus on what you can control. By focusing on what you can do you will feel more motivated to take action and empowered to follow it through. This will impact your business growth.

Take five – Self-care is vital to avoid burnout and physical or mental health issues. It’s important to take time to recharge your batteries. By giving yourself this time you will be able to work on your business more effectively.

Networking – Surrounding yourself with positive people who support, encourage, and lift you up is a wonderful way to boost your mindset. The Socially Shared networking events across the region prove the power of networking is packed full of benefits for your personal and professional development.

Visualisation – There have been many stories in the news about celebrities manifesting their dreams. The most famous story is that of actor Jim Carrey who wrote himself a $10 million cheque and dated it for ten years in the future. He visualised himself receiving it, which he did for his film Dumb and Dumber. Visualising your goals coming to fruition is a great mindset technique to follow. Imagine yourself receiving that award, publishing that book, landing that big contract, or hiring staff.

Your mindset is a powerful tool. Using the techniques above and adopting a growth mindset will give you the determination, drive, and motivation to achieve success and grow your business.
