We caught up with Dawn to find out why she chose to support the Festival, what she hopes attendees will take away from the day, and her thoughts on why finance doesn’t have to be frightening.
Why was it important for you to sponsor the Fearless Female Finance Festival?
Dawn: I come across too many women who are either terrified of the financial side of their business or not earning the money they want to in their business. Newsflash – it’s probably both, because the two go hand in hand! And honestly, I’m sick of it!!
When I heard about the FF Finance Festival, I realised there was nothing else quite like it out there, and I knew I had to be involved. Sure, there are plenty of conferences for women in the financial services sector, but I don’t see many events created for women in business to learn about finances.
The FF Finance Festival is filling that gap.
Bringing a wealth (see what I did there!) of speakers and information together in one place for one day is a genius idea, and I know that so many women will leave feeling better equipped to handle their finances going forward.
What message would you share with women who still feel nervous about ‘knowing their numbers’?
Dawn: I see this all the time with my clients. When they first come to me, they don’t even know what their numbers are; they just know it’s “not enough.”
In my opinion, this mostly comes down to a lack of education. When you start a business, no one sits you down and explains the financial side. You just get an accountant or a bookkeeper and get on with it!
I’ve lost count of how many women have told me that when their first tax or VAT bill arrived, they were like, “WTF is this?!” They hadn’t even been prepared for it by the professionals who should’ve guided them.
We’re often afraid to ask questions for fear of looking stupid, like there’s this secret code that everyone else knows. But here’s the truth: we don’t all know more than you!
Put your hand up. Ask the questions. Once you get your head around it, finance isn’t as scary as it seems.
Why do you think events like the Fearless Female Finance Festival are so valuable for female entrepreneurs?
Dawn: I have this vision of women walking into the FF Finance Festival, looking around, and breathing a sigh of relief, “It’s not just me,” they’ll whisper to themselves.
That moment of connection, of realising you’re not the only one who feels unsure or overwhelmed, is going to be so powerful.
Seeing other women, learning together, and sharing that sense of “we’re all figuring this out” is what makes an event like this truly special.
What excites you most about being a premier sponsor at this year’s festival?
Dawn: I don’t know of any other event quite like this one, so to be involved in the first ever Fearless Female Finance Festival that Karen and the Socially Shared team are creating is such an honour.
There are some incredible speakers lined up, and I just know it’s going to be a powerful, transformative day for everyone who attends.
If you could give one piece of advice to women ready to take control of their finances, what would it be?
Dawn: Get yourself booked onto this event!!!
The knowledge and information you’ll gain is exactly what you need, and it’s being delivered by women, for women.
It’s going to be a day full of education, inspiration, and motivation all around finance, and that’s not a sentence I ever expected to say!!
