If you want to show up and shine in business, this article will help you understand the importance of visibility, the skills you need, and how to use a tool you are already familiar with – your phone!

TLDR

  • Visibility is how people recognise, trust, and connect with you in business
  • Showing your face (even with selfies) builds familiarity and credibility
  • Capture simple moments: your workday, behind-the-scenes, lessons, and real-life business experiences
  • Create calm with a basic plan: three content themes, batching, and short captions
  • One photo or video can be repurposed across social media, newsletters, and blogs
  • Showing up is a skill you can practise

We all know that showing up consistently is important in business, but it’s something a lot of brilliant women in business shy away from because they feel they lack the skills, experience, or passion.

Showing up doesn’t require fancy equipment, perfect hair, a professional crew of scriptwriters, cameras, and lighting on speed dial, or lots of confidence.

There’s one business tool you already own that, once you learn how to use it intentionally, will help you show up and shine, and that’s your mobile phone. But first, let’s look at what visibility means as a business owner.

Visibility is Leadership

Showing your face, sharing your voice, and taking the occasional selfie is not about ego. Being the face behind the brand is all about making a connection with your audience. We know that people don’t buy from logos. They want to get to know you, recognise and trust you, and feel aligned with the products or services you offer.

When you show up consistently

  • You build familiarity
  • You shorten the trust gap
  • You position yourself as visible, credible, and approachable
  • And yes, sometimes that starts with a selfie!

Your Phone Is a Business Asset (Not Just for Doom Scrolling)

There are many features on your phone that entrepreneurs can use, with apps available for every aspect of running a business, from accounting apps like DEXT to organising your business processes with Trello.

Your phone camera is another feature that you might have overlooked as a business tool, but let’s look at why taking quick photos can boost your visibility:

  • Capture your ideas while they’re fresh.
  • Document your day-to-day business life.
  • Create content in real time.
  • Help people see what it’s like to work with you.
  • You don’t need to create content in a complicated way.
  • You just need to notice moments worth sharing.

What to Capture on Your Phone That’s Simple but Effective

If you’re ever stuck thinking “I don’t know what to post”, start here:

Your Face (selfie time!) – Selfies don’t have to be polished or posed. Try taking a photo of yourself sitting in your car before a meeting, walking into a networking event, or at your desk with your laptop and a coffee. Add a caption like, “Here’s what I’m working on today…” or “A quick reminder if you’re feeling stuck…”

Seeing someone’s face on your feed stops the scrolling.

Your Work in Progress – People love seeing behind the scenes, so why not capture your workspace, notes, plans, notebooks, screens (blur confidential info), or your prep for events, talks, or launches. This builds trust and relatability over perfection.

Everyday Business Moments – You don’t need to only record the big milestones. Small moments matter, so remember to capture the quiet wins, lessons learned, things you would do differently, or questions your customers ask you all the time. These become some of your most engaging posts.

How to Take Better Content on Your Phone (Without Overthinking)

A few simple tips go a long way:

  • Use natural light and face a window whenever possible
  • Clean your camera lens (honestly, this helps more than filters!)
  • Use portrait mode for softer backgrounds
  • Prop your phone up against books, mugs, or shelves
  • Short videos are perfect videos
  • You don’t need editing apps to start.
  • Clarity and confidence beat polish every time.

Put a Simple Content Plan Together

Here’s an easy structure that works for busy women in business:

Step 1: Choose three content themes. For example: your expertise, your journey/behind-the-scenes, encouragement, mindset, or lessons. Everything you post should sit under one of these.

Step 2: Batch when you can. That might be once a week (or fortnight). Take a few selfies, record 2–3 short videos, and photograph your workspace or notes. That’s your content sorted without the pressure.

Step 3: Write simple captions. They don’t need to be war and peace! Try writing one idea, one story, or one takeaway. At the end, add a short invitation to engage, such as “Have you experienced this too?”

Always remember the value of repurposing your content. This is where visibility gets efficient.

One photo or video can become:

  • An Instagram post
  • A Facebook post
  • A LinkedIn post (with a slightly different caption)
  • A newsletter talking point
  • A blog paragraph

Showing Up Is a Skill

You don’t need to be louder.
Or more confident.
And you don’t need to wait until you feel ready.

All you need to do is start showing up as you are, consistently, imperfectly, and intentionally!

Your phone isn’t just a device for doom scrolling. It’s a bridge between you and the people who need what you do.
